Zante, or Zakynthos in Greek, is one of the most beautiful and popular holiday destinations in the world. It offers a combination of fantastic weather, world famous beaches and renowned nightlife. On top of this there are plenty of tourist sites that are definitely worth checking out.
One of the most popular sights on Zante is Navagio Beach, aka Shipwreck Cove. The area is said to be the most photographed in the whole of Greece, attracting thousands of visitors every day. It can only be accessed by boat, providing a secluded spot with a beautiful soft, sandy beach and a backdrop of white cliffs. The shipwreck in the middle of the beach hit rocks in the 1980s after being chased by the Greek navy.
Another beautiful natural feature that visitors shouldn't miss is the Blue Caves. The seascape was created by the erosion of the sea, carving natural arches out of the rock. The eye-catching thing is the deep azure blue of the water deep inside each cave. Cape Skinari is home to the most spectacular caves but there are also some at Keri and Porto Vromi.
As well as Shipwreck Cove Zante is home to several other iconic beaches, including Agios Nikolaos, Alikes, Dafni, and Gerakas. A number of these are home to endangered loggerhead turtles, giving visitors the chance see them during spring and summer months. All visitors are reminded to respect the turtles and not disturb them when they are on the beaches.
The capital of Zante is Zakynthos Town. It is home to the main piazza, largest concentration of shops, numerous bars and restaurants, and celebrated clubs. Zeros is here, based prominently on the strip. In addition the town is also the location of the main ferry port. Tourists can take tours from here to various destinations including Navagio, Cape Skinari, and neighbouring Kefalonia or Olympia.
Laganas is renowned for its nightlife and has a reputation as a "party town". The resort is home to a main street that is almost entirely nightclubs, bars and restaurants. The beach is lined by bars too. The Mansion is located here.
